Milford Sound - Basic Diver Certification ( For unqualified / first time divers ).

The SSI Basic Diver program is an introductory, fun focused experience where you will learn basic diving knowledge and skills, plus experience diving up to 12 meters deep under the direct supervision of a SSI Professional. It is perfect for new divers to allow you to see one of the worlds most unique and beautiful locations, both above and below the water in just one day before committing to the next introductory level certification of Scuba Diver ( plus one day ) or the full Open Water certification ( plus two days ). The SSI Basic Diver Certification can be credited towards full diver certification within six months of the experience with any SSI facility world wide but if you have more time than just one day and want to learn with one of the best teams around, Descend can provide you with further the opportunity to meet your diving goals.

On the dive day, you are given an introduction to your dive equipment, fitted with a quality wetsuit and we will cruise out into Milford Sound's waters on our dive boat to marvel at the scenery. During your initial first dive you will be taught the fundamental scuba diving skills in shallow water. Your second dive will be a full open water, scenic dive up to a maximum depth of 12 meters. During this time in the water you will be under the direct care and instruction of a Descend / SSI Instructor (max 2 students to 1 instructor).

This is a full day of fun, filled with majestic scenery and guaranteed positive learning experiences to kickstart your diving passion. All within Milford Sound / Piopiotahi, with the Descend team.

Milford Sound / Piopiotahi - General Marine Info:

Unique to the Milford's underwater world are sheer cliff faces, which provide for the most spectacular Fiord wall diving and a totally unique eco system of black coral trees. The coral trees have a stunning white appearance over a jet black skeleton and are normally only found in deep water trenches. Thanks to Milford's heavy rainfall making for a mix of fresh and salt water on the surface with huge mountains casting their shadows over the waters, enough light is blocked to allow these beautiful coral trees to call Milford's Piopiotahi marine reserve home.

While diving you may also see dolphins, seals, sharks, eels, octopus, stingray, crayfish, nudibranch and over 150 different fish species.
